THE GOALS To uplift the families of the museum district by having easy access to family planning, counceling and a place of gathering To create a calm and inviting environment where everyone feels invited To provide a place of sanctuary
THE PURPOSE More and more people are looking for a place that fills the gap between hospitals and primary care physicians, thus explaining the rise of the wellness clinic. This is a place that works to educate communities on prevalent issues that they can prevent themselves. It is important for these places to be a place of communication, trust and calm. This can be facilitated in the layout and materiality of the space. It is outlined in “A field research study of interior design features in alternative care facilities from three southern states” that there are important criteria for a calming space: sunlight, sound (less ambient noise) smell, temperature, nature, color and social factors. Dynamics, located at 3201 W. Cary, considers all these specifics in its design language to create an open environment. CONCEPT STATEMENT The Museum District is an area in Richmond City that caters to many families. There is a need within this community for a place for these families to have access to to proper education to best support themselves as a family unit. Through shared spaces with natural views, and private areas located in the center of the building, Dynamics is a place where all can come for support. Ease of mind is essential in a wellness clinic for recovery, so color cues help the community navigate which regions are for them or for the staff to avoid confusion. Natural light is used to highlight the public spaces; community, waiting and classroom spaces. The more private zones are not exposed to views from the outside but are still filled with light colors and natural materials to calm and heal. Some programs that are offered at Dynamics include single parent support groups, Socialization for Seniors, Birthing, Sex Ed, STI, and Menopause classes, to support all changes in life for all members of the Museum District community.
